Fall Break

It feels like every time my kids have a big break, I have intense things going on at work. I suspect that’s a feature of my first year at this job because I have to create or tweak methods for every single thing that I do and it’s super time consuming. I hope next year is a little less crazy that way.

This year I was deep in the bowels of the last finishing touches of my yearly audit, which is three months late. I also was making preparations for my fall retreat, where I needed to present the first swing at my 2025 budget. These two projects shouldn’t overlap. But because there was so much clean up to get 2023 audited and closed, I ended up doing both projects at the same time. It was SO intense. I worked a zillion hours the last couple weeks. Fall retreat rolled around on Tuesday and it all went really well. And when 4:00 rolled around that afternoon and everything was done, I had the biggest weight lift off my shoulders.

The kids were on fall break all week, so that was an added layer of complication to our schedule. But once I was done, it was time to play! Spencer planned a fishing and hiking trip down to Fish Lake and Capital Reef. It’s been so warm up to this point that we hoped we’d be able to slide in one more trip. I took the kids down. Bill had too much to do to take off. We headed down and had honestly the worst time fishing. Turns out it’s much better if you’re fishing from a boat. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Tough luck for us. It was a good learning experience.

And then it ended up being a lot colder than I expected. Or let’s say it felt colder than I thought it would at the temperature I expected, lol. I accidentally broke the zipper on Genevieve’s sleeping bag right before bed. She froze all night. Spencer realized as he was going to bed that he forgot his contacts. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I had totally had the thought to ask him before we left if he had them, then I got distracted and never did. We tried to put his current contacts in water to try to use them a second time, which was a stretch, but might as well. But it froze that night! I got some truly beautiful frosty pictures in the morning, but absolutely no luck on the contacts. The water froze and I put some warm water in but they wouldn’t stick when he put them in his eyes. That pretty well ended the trip. You can’t go hiking if you can’t see. So we headed back to Salt Lake after just one day instead of three.

We always get ice cream at some point during our trips at the gas station. We hit the gas station at about 10:45 am and I was like huh, I guess it’s an ice cream in the morning sort of day! 😂

When we got home, Spencer went fishing. We had planned to go out to eat so we did that. Had a GREAT time! We’ve hit that magical phase of parenthood where going out to eat together isn’t torturous. It’s delightful! We also went to the pumpkin walk in Daybreak, which was fun. We would have missed that if we’d been down south still.

Saturday I ran for the first time with my run club in about a month! It’s been a brutal month with health issues, busy at work, and stuff at home. I finally finished some of that and found some answers about health stuff, so huzzah! The run felt so good.

Oh, and I almost forgot, Karen invited Natasha and I to a Thriller show and oh gosh, it was fun. Loved it! She got called up on stage. It was hilarious.

Low picture week

There was a fun activity Bill took Genevieve to yesterday at the lake  Genevieve was enthralled by the petting zoo animals

I can’t remember why Chloe made this face, but it was hilarious, so I took a picture.
And we’re generally enthralled by Remi. She’s a cutie!

Conference weekend

It’s General Conference weekend and we always get some sort of craft to work on because it’s much easier to focus when you have something to do with your hands. I got these diamond art coasters for the kids, which have been a hit. I have the little drills all over my living room and kitchen now… 😂
And I got a new paint by number for me. It’s coming along. Bill is out of luck. He’s spent most of the time sending out conference-themed memes. 😆
Freya and Remi don’t hate each other anymore! And they like this couch A LOT.
We decorated for Halloween! Daybreak does amazing things for Halloween. We will definitely be expanding our decorating in years to come, but we’re starting with this.
Conferencing.

This was a gorgeous sunset I caught last Sunday.
And a fantastically amusing picture of my kids beforehand.
